- False buffalograss is distinctive and easily recognized in the field, yet it has been vouchered only about fifteen times in the Watershed. Currently (2026) a few more observations can be found on iNaturalist. Munroa squarrosa, annual and warm-weather, is found throughout the Rockies, from the Canadian border to the Mexican border. It is also distributed throughout the desert Southwest, in the habitat it prefers, dry flats and hills. It follows the Rio Grande through New Mexico to the Big Bend region of Texas.
