- Alpine timothy has been recorded often from the upper montane to the alpine in all mountain ranges of the Watershed. Its spike can be seen standing above other vegetation in high meadows and forest openings. In the USA Phleum alpinum is recorded from similar habitat in all Western states. It follows the Rio Grande drainage only through the upper third of New Mexica.
