- Comments
- Water whorlgrass has scattered vouchers from the Watershed, beginning in 1900 (Sangre de Cristo Creek, Costilla Co). It has been recorded from several creeks in both side of the Valley, among them Cave, Hodding, and Luders (Saguache Co), as well as Sangre de Cristo (Costilla Co). Recent observations have been few—iNaturalist has none from 2016 on. This may be because of the reluctance of many photographers to wade around in mud and water. Catabrosa aquatic grows in wet ground beside streams and ponds, and sometimes within the water, from montane to subalpine levels. Its USA distribution centers in Wyoming and Utah, with locations in all states bordering those two. The Rio Grande drainage occurrences are restricted to Colorado. Note that C. aquatic is a northern hemisphere species around the world, but it is considered native to both the Old and the New World. POWO lists 70 heterotypic synonyms.
