- The alpine Penstemon bleaklyi has only one observation from the Watershed, by Scott F. Smith on Trinchera Peak (Costilla Co, Culebra Range, 14 Aug 2014). The species was first collected by Steve O'Kane and Kenneth Heil just south of the Colorado border in Vermejo Park Ranch (Taos Co, Culebra Range, July 2013). Since then it has been recorded several times from the Culebra Range of Colorado, by Jennifer Ackerfield and others, but all those observation are east of the Rio Grande Watershed. P. bleaklyi may be confused with P. harbourii, but that species is hairy along the entire length of the staminode, whereas P. bleakly is hairy only at the tip of the staminode. So far P. bleaklyi is endemic to the Culebra Range of Colorado and New Mexico.
