There is only one Watershed location for Heterotheca hirsuta: Wagon Wheel Gap (Mineral Co), elev. 8,500', 25 Aug 1912, collected by A. A. Griffin. Griffin identified it as "Heterotheca fulcrata," but Guy Nesom determined it as "Heterotheca hirsuta" (2020, p. 51). Heterotheca hirsuta (Nesom 2020) is characterized by its height and leaf edges with long, stiff cilia. The species is distributed in the USA from the Pacific northwest states across to Idaho and Montana and down to Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. In Colorado, Alexander (2022) says it is found in the mountains of the west slope and predominently in the northwest of the state. If Griffin's specimen is Heterotheca hirsuta, then it would represent the sole location in the entire Rio Grande drainage.
