- Despite its common name, the one official observation of Arceuthobium americanum was found on a ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa), in Rajadero canyon, 28.5 air miles southwest of Alamosa (Conejos Co, 2015, Pam Regensberg coll). The location lies at the extreme southeast corner of the USA distribution, which ranges up the Rockies to Canada and down the Pacific ranges to southern California—essentially found were grow Pinus contorta. As the common name indicates, this hemiparasitic dwarf mistletoe usually grows on lodgepole pine.
