Sainfoin has been recorded three times from the Watershed: at the intersection of CR 43 and CR CR in Saguache Co, elevation 7,705', 2021 (see iNaturalist observation 93189051); within the town limits of Saguache, 2021 (iNaturalist observation 82600284); and in Conejos Co (shown in Ackerfield 2022, with no SEINet voucher). Onobrychis viciifolia is exotic, a famous old-world forage plant (said to have provided the straw for the crib of Jesus), first recorded from the USA in the 1880s and from Colorado a decade later (Larimer Co). Its advent into the Watershed, then, is late, and may have been assisted by road-bank revegetation projects. The current USA distribution is scattered largely through the states west of the Great Plains. The only observations in the Rio Grande drainage of New Mexico come from the Chama River of Rio Arriba Co (2007).
