- One voucher labelled as Penstemon gibbensii was collected by John Anderson in July of 1988 "on the road to La Jara Reservoir" (Conejos Co, probably near La Jara SWA). Odds are this is a misdetermination, and neither Ackerfield (2022) nor BONAP (2022) accept it. P. gibbensii is an uncommon penstemon found in five contiguous counties of northwestern Colorado, northeastern Utah, and south Wyoming in sandy, shaly loam.
