- Mentzelia thompsonii has been recorded only once from the Watershed: in 2017 from the La Botica site in La Jara Creek canyon, 10.8 air miles SW of Capulin, Conejos Co (see Mitchell, ed., 2022, Appendix A). It was found and determined by Carol English. Ackerfield shows M. thompsonii as a west-slope Colorado species, and BONAP confines the USA distribution to western Colorado, eastern Utah, and the New Mexico counties of San Juan and Sandoval. So the La Botica specimen could possibly be the unique occurrence in the entire Rio Grande drainage. Note that determination of M. thompsonii is not easy, as the distinctions among the small-flower stickleafs are minute and sometimes relative (i.e., M. albicaulis, M. dispersa, M. thompsonii, and the New Mexican M. humilis).
