- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. The broomrape Aphyllon multiflorum has been vouchered five times from the Watershed: 6 miles E of Alamosa (Alamosa Co, 1969), San Pedro Mesa (Costilla Co, 1983), Flattop Mountain (Conejos Co, 1986), and the Baca NWP (Saguache Co, 2012). The fifth, possibly, was collected by Hobey Dixon in 1991 at the Great Sand Dunes and identified by him as "Orobanche multifida." The species is often treated as a subspecies of A. ludovicianum, but most authorities accept it: e.g., FNA and Ackerfield (2022). It is distinguished by its short pedicels, rounded tips of corolla lobes, spicate and relatively large inflorescence. It is parasitic mainly on Gutierreza, sometimes Heterotheca. The center of its USA range is New Mexico, where Allred et al. (2020) show it as "common" and as following the Rio Grande drainage down to the Mexican border.
