- In the Watershed, Allium geyeri var. geyeri is more wide spread than A. geyeri var. tenerum, collected from both sides of the Valley. (The voucher photographs of Allium geyeri from the north Cristos and the Culebras, without variety designated, all look like A. geyeri var. geyeri.) This variety may prefer less mesic conditions than var. tenerum, but it has been found in similar habitats, such as subalpine meadows and montane forest openings and stream sides. It differs from A. geyeri var. tenerum in that its umbel is composed of fertile flowers and no bulblets (bulbils). Its USA distribution is all Western states with the exception of the Pacific coastal ranges. It continues on down the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico into a bit of west Texas.
