- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In 1984, Blaine H. M. Mooers collected a plant from a foothill dominated with Ribes in the Del Norte Ranger District of Del Norte, identified as "Mertensia lanceolata var. fendleri. In 2022, the 2nd edition of Ackerfield mentions Costilla as one Colorado county for Mertensia fendleri var. pubens, with no vouchers in SEINet. These are the only two indications that M. fendleri var. pubens may be present in the Watershed. Allred et al. (2020) record the species and variety in "Mixed coniferous forest and mesic ponderosa pine woodland in the northern thirds of New Mexico." Note that the presence of Watershed M. fendleri var. pubens in herbaria may be larger than currently catalogued because most specimens were determined before Nazaire and Hufford's 2014 revision of Mertensia.
