- The 2022 photorecord of Epilobium oregonense from a mattress bog at Cumbres pass (Conejos Co) is the only observation from the Watershed. It would add Conejos to counties indicated in BONAP (2022). Ackerfield (2022) says only that the species has been "Reported for Colorado, but no specimens have been seen." Oregon willow-herb has been collected recently from Rio Arriba and Taos counties of New Mexico, in similar habitat: spongy moss at elevation around 10,000'. The stolons with small leaves and without a turion, and the stipulate glandular hairs of the bracts and fruit, are diagnostic. The USA distribution is centered in California, Oregon, and Washington, with scattered locations eastward to the Great Plains. So the few upper Rio Grande drainage observations fit into a pattern of isolated occurrences in the Southern and Central Rockies, with plants typically growing in mesic, nutrient-rich ground. Note that BONAP also does not show the New Mexico records.
