- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed (and in Colorado) the exotic Syrian bean-caper is represented by two old vouchers sent in by Aven Nelson. One is labeled only "An introduced weed in the San Luis Valley, Colorado, July, 1928." The other adds, "sent to him by someone." Weber and Wittmann speculate that the species did not develop an ecotype that could spread in Colorado. Note, however, that Allred et al. (2022) record it from Doña Ana Co, New Mexico, and describe its habitat as "Southern Rio Grande valley, disturbed ground, flood plain, consistently present since 1937." It has also been recorded from the Rio Grande floodplain in El Paso Co, Texas, 1970-1993. So it is reasonable to imagine that Zygophyllum fabago could still be growing in the the Lower Basin on the banks of the Rio Grande.
