- There are no herbarium vouchers for erect knotweed from the Watershed. Polygonum erectum does not appear in Ackerfield's Flora of Colorado (2022), perhaps an oversight since it has been recorded repeatedly from the state since 1878 (see SEINet and FNA), or perhaps because she treats it as Polygonum achoreum. The 2017 and 2019 photorecords from Rio Grande Co would then be the only documentation of P, erectum in the Watershed. The species has a scattered presence in many states west of the Great Plains (it is common east of the Plains). Allred et al. (2020) record it from the Rio Grande drainage at the border with Colorado (Rio Arriba Co) down to Sierra Co (there are no records from farther down stream). Native Americans gathered its seeds for food.
