- White sweetclover has been recorded from the Upper and Lower Basins of the Watershed and into the lower montane—but not often. Melilotus albus has been around at least since 1934, when Francis Ramaley collected it from "Alamosa." It is most often found in disturbed habitats such as floodplains, field edges, and street and road sides. In New Mexico it follows the Rio Grande drainage from Taos Co to the Mexican border, and in Texas at least down to Webb Co. Note that M. albus is often treated under M. officinalis, but its fruit is more sharply ridged and reticulated than that of M. officinalis, and its banner longer in comparison with its wings.
