NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Is Fish Lake thistle present in the Watershed? BONAP shows C. clavatum as present in all Watershed counties except for Alamosa and Costilla. SEINet shows no records of Cirsium clavatum var. americanum from there. Ackerfield et al (2020), a revision of the C. clavatum complex, would assign to Cirsium clavatum all the many older vouchers from the Watershed determined as "Cirsium eatonii." Yet Ackerfield (2022) says "Cirsium clavatum and C. eatonii are now limited to Utah in distribution." She seems to assign Watershed vouchers determined as "C. eatonii" to C. hesperium or C. griseum, yet show no occurrences of C. griseum in the Watershed. iNaturalist calls "C. clavatum var. americanum" or "Fish Lake thistle" C. griseum osterhoutii, a name not recognized by BONAP or Ackerfield 2022. FNA shows the distribution of C. clavatum var. americanum as only Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado, without discriminating further. In short, a mess.
