Comments
For Amaranthus palmeri in the Watershed as yet there is only one documented record: Costilla Co, near Alamosita Creek, 17 air miles southeast of San Luis (iNaturalist observation #88656939, July 2021). More records should be expected, given the way the species is spreading in the USA. This pigweed is native to the USA Southwest. In Colorado it is adventive, found in Montezuma Co and Plains counties on the southwest edge of the state. The USA distribution covers the southern third of the country. This pigweed follows the Rio Grande drainage to the Gulf. It is present in nearly every county in New Mexico, where it is a "serious pest" of agriculture (Allred et al., 2020). The one collection from Taos Co, New Meixco (2008), was beside Hwy 285, 5 miles N of Ojo Caliente, near the Rio Grande, about 40 miles S of the Colorado border.
