- Spirodela polyrhiza is uncommon in Colorado, and the 2021 Monte Vista photorecord is the only observation from the Watershed. For the species the record would add Rio Grande to the counties indicated in Ackerfield (2022) and BONAP (2022). The closest occurrence to it is Archuleta Co in the San Juan River watershed (Heil, 2002). BONAP shows one observation from Bernalillo Co, New Mexico, and some from around the Big Bend country of Texas, but otherwise Spirodela polyrhize has not been observed in the Rio Grande drainage, although it is present in all states of the USA. The under-collection of aquatics may partly account for the infrequency of observations in the Watershed.
