- NEED IN SITU PHOTOGRAPHS. Of verbena stricta there are two early records from the San Juan foothills in Conejos Co. Judging by the herbarium photographs, neither look like Verbena stricta—but that is a species hard to distinguish from V. macdougalii. The USA distribution is centered around the Midwest, with scattered occurrences (probably many adventive) in Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico. and eastern Colorado, often found roadside. According to Allred et al (2020), the specimens they have seen from New Mexico labeled "Verbena stricta" are V. macdougalii. So the Conejos Co, Colorado observations would be the only ones from the entire Rio Grande drainage.
