- In the Watershed, Zannichellia palustris has been found in standing or slow flowing water of ponds, artesian springs, ditches, and lakes, usually in the Basin but occasional up into the subalpine (e.g., Burro Lake, Conejos Co). As many aquatics, horned pondweed is more common than collections indicate. It is broadly spread through all USA states from the Great Plains westward, with scattered locations in all the other states. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico and Texas to the Gulf of Mexico.
