- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. For Parthenocissus inserta there is one Watershed record, “Punche Arroyo just above confluence with Rio Grande River,” in Conejos Co (1987). In New Mexico, BONAP shows collections on down the Rio Grande as far as Espanola. Note that Allred et al. (2020) treat this species as P. vitacea and, along with FNA, dispose of P. inserta, sensu stricta, as a synonym of P. quinquefolia. Meanwhile BONAP shows the USA distribution of P. quinquefolia as native east of the Great Plains, finds P. inserta as present in every state except for those of the South, and omits P. vitacea. Take your pick.
