- There are only three vouchers of marsh violet in the Watershed: near Gray-Back Mining west of La Veta pass (Costilla Co, 1900), from a bog near Cumbres Pass (Conejjos Co, 1956), and on Forest Road 861 to Mosquito Lake, W of Villa Grove (Saguache Co, 1998). More than a half century later, the 1956 record from Cumbres Pass has been supported by Mary E. McDonald's photorecords of 2022 and 2023. These occurrences mark the southeast corner of the USA distribution, which is chiefly the Rocky and the Cascade mountains. The Watershed collections are the only ones from the entire Rio Grande drainage. Note that Viola palustris, V. macloskeyi, and V. renifolia are easily confounded.
