- Western dog violet is the most common violet of the Watershed, found on both sides of the Valley in a range of habitats, both mesic and xeric, from forest openings to stream sides to dry tundra meadows. The USA distribution of Viola adunca covers all states west of the Great Plains and all along the Canadian border through the Great Lakes and New England. It is present in the Rio Grande drainage only down to Santa Fe Co, New Mexico.
