Typha latifolia is the common cattail of the Watershed, its population much reduced by agricultural drainage but still occupying irrigation and roadside ditches. It follows the Rio Grande down through New Mexico to within 50 miles of the Gulf of Mexico. It is present in every state of the USA, indeed in the large majority of counties.
