- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. On the Wheeler expedition of 1873, John Wolf found this uncommon bur-weed in "the San Luis Valley." Since then there have been four collections of Sparganium eurycarpum (1949-1986), all from along the Rio Grande or in ponds near the river. It is present in all USA states except Texas and the deep South. In New Mexico, where collections are as scarce as in the Watershed, it has been recorded in Santa Fe and Otero counties. It is not recorded from from the Rio Grande drainage of Texas.
