- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Ritter's kittentail is a Colorado endemic normally found in the SW corner of the state. The Waterrshed has four records: two W of Saguache; one near Carnero Creek W of La Garita; one near Mogotes peak W of Conejos. Veronica ritteriana is not easy to distinguish from V. plantaginea. For instance, the Carnero Creek location is a few miles from the Carnero Creek Guard Station near which V. plantaginea is found (see photorecord, Haswell, 1 July 2019). Note that the change in genus epithet to Synthyris from the familiar Besseya is based on phytogenetic analysis by Hufford and McMahon (2004). Then Alback, Martinez-Ortegsa, Fischer, and Chase (2004) argued convincingly that all species previously put in the genera Besseya belong in the genus Veronica. At least they convinced FNA.
