- In the Watershed, for white kittentails collections have not been common. Veronica [Besseya] plantaginea tends to be found in local populations: e.g., near Carnero Pass, Poncha Pass, and La Veta Pass, usually on meadow slopes. The population near the Carnero Guard Station was recorded in 1922 and 2019. In Colorado the species grows on both the eastern and western slopes. The USA distribution is mainly confined to Colorado, New Mexico, and eastern Arizona. In the New Mexico Rio Grande drainage, it is present down to Santa Fe Co, but no farther down stream. Note that the change in genus epithet to Synthyris from the familiar Besseya is based on phytogenetic analysis by Hufford and McMahon (2004). Then Alback, Martinez-Ortegsa, Fischer, and Chase (2004) argued convincingly that all species previously put in the genera Besseya belong in the genus Veronica. At least this convinced FNA.
