- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. There is only one voucher of Saxifraga hirculus, from Lost Creek trail, north of Rio Grande Reservoir, elev. 11,000, in Hinsdale Co (Braxton Neely 1979). The determination is not accepted by Ackerfield or BONAP. The SEINet photograph, however, shows the loosely spreading basal leaves that helps distinguish the species from S. chrysantha. A second occurrence was photorecorded in Zasha Welsh in iNaturalist (observation # 90829338), in Aug 2021 near the Stone Cellar guard station in Saguache Co south of the old Cochetopa pass. The non-glandular ciliate margins of the sepals are clear in her photo, another feature that distinguishes S. hirculus from S. chrysantha and S. flagellaris. S. hirculus is an uncommon saxifrage throughout its range, which is the Rockies in Colorado and isolated locations in single counties of Wyoming, Utah, and New Mexico (Colfax Co).
