- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. There is only one record of Saxifraga hirculus, from Lost Creek trail, north of Rio Grande Reservoir, elev. 11,000, in Hinsdale Co (Braxton Neely 1979). The determination is not accepted by Ackerfield or BONAP. Indeed, it takes close observation to distinguish S. hirculus from S. chrysantha. The SEINet photograph, however, shows the loosely spreading basal leaves that helps distinguish the species from S. chrysantha. This is an uncommon saxifrage throughout its range, which is the Rockies in Colorado and isolated locations in single counties of Wyoming, Utah, and New Mexico (Colfax Co).
