NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed golden saxifrage been found at lower elevations than Saxifraga cernua and S. cespitosa, but as do those two species S. chrysantha grows mainly in the tundra, on rocky slopes. It is found in all mountains regions of the Valley. It follows the Rio Grande drainage no farther than Santa Fe Co in New Mexico, marking the southern edge of its USA distribution. That is more restricted than S. cernua and S. cespitosa, confined largely to small areas of Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico.
