- Of the two spiderworts in the Watershed, five-stamen mitrewort has been recorded only slightly more commonly than Ozomelis stauropetala [Mitella stauropetala]. Both are found in mesic, shady habitats, often in Picea forests. Watershed locations are all in the San Juans south of the Rio Grande. Hogan and Elliot say it is "notably absent" from the North Cristos wilderness. The Watershed occurrences mark the southeastern edge of the USA distribution. There are only a few collections from Rio Arriba Co in New Mexico, none farther down the Rio Grande drainage. Note that Folk and Freudenstein (2014) separated Ozomelis and Pectiantia from Mitella on phylogenetic grounds.
