- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Box elder has three locations in the Watershed. Two are in Costilla Co: the city park of Manassa (1986) and a location withheld (1989). The third is the Great Sand Dunes NPP, documented by a photorecord from May 2023 (iNaturalist observation #163386844). Box elder is introduced to Colorado, but has naturalized along river and canyon bottoms. It is present in the Rio Grande drainage of New Mexico from Rio Arriba and Taos counties to the Mexican border.
