- Three-petal bedstraw has been found with fair frequency on the west side of the Valley, and once from the Upper Basin (Blanca Wetlands, 2015). Its habitat is almost always mesic: lake side, stream side, mattress bog, artesian well, forest seep. It is not recorded from the Watershed Cristos, but there are many records from the Cristos of New Mexico, where it follows the Rio Grande drainage halfway down the state. In the USA it is wide spread, found in all states west of the Great Plains, and all across the northern third of the nation. The Watershed species is var. subbiflorum. Note that the common name "three-petal" is misleading, since plants will often have a few four-lobed flowers as well as three-lobed ones.
