- This wild rose is not often collected in the Watershed. Vouchers usually come from sandy soil around lakes and ponds—all on the west side of the Valley; for instance, 4 miles SW of La Jara Reservoir (Conejos Co, 1987); near Elwood pass (Rio Grande Co, 1996); Humphrey's Ranch S of Creede (Mineral Co, 2014). Ackerfield (2022) and BONAP (2022) show Costilla and Alamosa counties, with no vouchers in SEINet. These Watershed locations lie toward the southern end of the distribution of Rosa acicularis in the Rockies. The specie also extends across the northern third of the country, from Idaho to Maine. It is reported by Allred et al. (2020) down the Rio Grande drainage to Santa Fe Co, New Mexico (but it is not found farther down stream).
