- Potentilla pulcherrima has been the most commonly collected Watershed cinquefoil, although differentiation from P. gracilis can be problematical (many records are identified as Potentilla gracilis var. pulcherrima). It occupies a range of habitats, but tends toward the xeric—flat forest openings, old stream beds, canyon flats, tundra meadows, etc. It is mainly a Rockies plant, but also occupies the Great Basin and Intermountain regions. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico to the border with Texas.
