- Geum aleppicum has been recorded creek side in forest openings from both sides of the Valley, but not as commonly as G. macrophyllum. As yet there are no records from the Culebras but there are from the Rio Grande drainage Cristos of New Mexico. The plant thrives in the northern half of the USA, but it does follow the Rio Grande drainage down to the Mexican border (no farther). Note that separating G. aleppicum and G. macroohyllum (the two are sympatric in the Watershed) requires observation of the basal leaves. Although native to the USA, it is also found in Eurasia, hence "aleppicum" (from Aleppo in Syria).
