- For mountain avens, there are several vouchers, all rather vague as to location. One is marked just “Conejos Co” (1981). Another "La Garita Wild Area, Spring Creek to Cochetopa Pass" (1968). Another location is San Juan Co, "Continental Divide trail" (1994). There is more definitive record that the flower may also grow on the crest of the Cristos: Time Hogan collected it from “Saguache/Custer,” “ridgeline NNW of Music Pass” (24 July 2009); and Jennifer Ackerfield has an iNaturalist observation (#69091655) from just north of Trinchera Peak a little west of the crest, in Costlla Co, 8 Aug 2018. According to BONAP and FNA, all these occurrences would mark the southeastern corner of the USA distribution, which consists of isolated alpine habitats in Washington, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Colorado. The species has not been recorded from New Mexico.
