- Fendler's buckthorn is a commonly recorded Watershed bush growing on foothill and montane hillsides (sometimes quite steep), and in wooded spaces. There are no records from the Culebras, but many from New Mexico, on both sides of the Rio Grande. Ceanothus fendleri, one of many species of buckthorn in the USA, ranges through Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, where is follows the Rio Grande drainage into Texas halfway to the Big Bend country.
