- In the Watershed Trautvetteria grandis has been recorded regularly from forest understory and sometimes by lake and stream edges, but only from a fairly restricted area in the Rio Chama and Conejos River drainages (Archuleta Co and Conejos Co). It is also found in the New Mexico Rio Grande drainage, from the Colorado border down to Socorro Co. Note that in 2026 POWO divided the USA Trautvetteria caroliniensis into two species: Trautvetteria caroliniensis (distributed in southeastern USA); and Trautvetteria grandis (all western USA states and Canada except for Utah). Also note that this unusual flower has no petals. What might be taken for petals are stamens.
