- Shooting star is locally common on both sides of the Valley, typically on borders of montane streams but also by seeps and other kinds of wetlands. It is probably present in the Culebras since it is recorded from the eastern side of the Rio Grande drainage in New Mexico. The flower is present in all USA states west of the Great Plains. Note that Mast and Reveal 2007 have subsumed the genus Dodacethon under Primula. As of July 2024, the new name, Primula pauciflora, has been accepted by POWO and iNaturalist but not by FNA and BONAP.
