- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Potamogeton praelongus has only one Watershed collection, near Empedrado Lake, 16 miles W of La Jara in Conejos Co (1987). BONAP also shows Alamosa and Costilla counties, with no voucher in SEINet. One might also include the voucher from a pond on Gray Ranch, 5 miles NW of Alamosa (1949), which was originally determined as P. richardsonii, then as P. perfoliatus, finally as praelongus. As pondweeds go, whitestem pondweed is readily recognized. The USA presence is highly scattered across the northern third, including the Great Plains. Conejos Co would mark its southernmost location and therefore the only one in the entire Rio Grande drainage.
