- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Potamogeton alpinus has a fair number of collections from small lakes or ponds in the southern San Juans, but nowhere else in the Watershed. This pondweed extends only as far as Rio Arriba and Taos counties of New Mexico. It is scattered in the high elevations of all Western states, and across the northern fifth of the USA. As most Potamogeton species, it is probably under-collected in the Watershed.
