- In the Watershed, American dock has been found only in the Upper Basin, around edges of lakes, ditches, and other wetlands. It is not common in the Valley, and there is evidence from other regions of the USA that the plant is vulnerable to exotic species. In the USA, it ranges throughout the Western and Northern states, and on down through the Americas to Tierra del Fuego (hence its specific epithet). It follows the Rio Grande drainage, in a spotty way, from New Mexico to the Big Bend country of Texas.
