- Sawatch knotweed is recorded from on both sides of the Valley, usually found in mesic meadows. There are only two observation of Polygonum sawatchense from the Cristos, although Hogan and Elliot, 2022, collecting on both the west and the east sides of the North Cristos, say that the species is more common there than P. douglasii. In New Mexico, the species has been often collected on both sides of the Rio Grande valley. It is found in all USA states west of the Great Plains, and has made its way down the Rio Grande drainage of New Mexico nearly to the Mexican border (Otero Co).
