- In the Watershed there are only scattered collections of slender buckwheat, usually from foothills on sandy/rocky lower montane soil with sagebrush and pinyon-juniper. The Lower Basin record (1936) comes from the San Luis Hills. Eriogonum microthecum extends down the Rio Grand watershed through two-thirds of New Mexico, which marks the eastern edge of the USA distribution. That distribution is large for an Eriogonum, covering all Western states, except for the Pacific coast and the east slopes of the Rockies.
