- In the Watershed, there are not many records of golden buckwheat. Eriogonum flavum is found locally on pinyon-juniper knolls, on volcanic outcrops (near Creede and Del Norte), in ash deposits (SW of Cochetops pass), even in subalpine meadows (head of Raspberry Creek in the north Cristos). A recent photorecord is from a hillside above Alder Creek, north of South Fork (8 June 2023, iNaturalist #171967019). The Watershed collections mark the very southern edge of the USA distribution, which is Central and Northern Rockies up to the Canadian border. The species is not recorded from New Mexico or Texas.
