- Eriogonum effusum has not been often collected from the Watershed and from only four counties. It prefers shrubland-foothills habitat: e.g., 1 mile S of Villa Grove (Saguache Co, 2001) and 8 miles W of Del Norte (Rio Grande Co, 2018); but it also has been found in stabilized sanddunes, e.g., the Great Sand Dunes NWP, (Alamosa Co, 1934). A recent iNaturalist observation found it 20 km NNW of San Luis (#37932396, Costilla Co, 2020). The Del Norte record would add Rio Grande to counties indicated in Ackerfield (2022) and BONAP (2022). The primary USA distribution is the Front Range and western Plains of Wyoming and Colorado, and southwestern New Mexico, where it follows the Rio Grande drainage down to Socorro Co (but no farther down the drainage).
