NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. For Phlox longifolia there is only one voucher, collected by William Penland and John Hartwell, dated 1947 and labeled, “2 mi. north of New Mexico line on Hy. #17.” This would be in Conejos county and in the Watershed. BONAP shows Mineral Co, with no SEINet vouchers, perhaps in the Watershed, perhaps not. There is a good likelihood that Phlox longifolia has continued presence in the Watershed, since it has been collected from the Rio Grande drainage in New Mexico to within 30 miles of the border with Colorado. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico to the Big Bend country of Texas. Its USA presence covers all the states west of the Great Plains, starting east of the Pacific mountain ranges—a very common flower in those states. Note that this is a variable species that has spawned many synonyms, subspecies, and varieties.
