- In the Watershed, on both sides of the Valley, this prickly-phlox grows in the foothills, often on dry rocky inclines associated with Juniperus, Ribes, Opuntia, Artemisia frigida, etc. The occurrences of Linanthus pungens in the Watershed, along with those of north central New Mexico, mark the southeastern corner of the USA distribution, which ranges through all states west of the Great Plains.
