- American speedwell is common around the Valley mountains, by every kind of water—streams, rills, seeps, beaver ponds, etc. Unlike Veronica anagallis-aquatica, V. americana does not range into the Basin. The species is present in nearly every county west of the Great Plains, and well established around the Great Lakes and in New England. It follows the Rio Grande drainage though all of New Mexico and then a little way into west Texas.
